CAMARILLO : Optimists to Cite Polite Motorists
Nice drivers will get their due in Camarillo this week.
Starting today, members of the Camarillo Noontime Optimist Club will cite drivers who yield unnecessarily, give right-of-way or do something noticeably considerate of other motorists or pedestrians.
“It’s common-sense stuff that should happen daily,†said club spokesman Alan Kaluhikaua. “We just wanted the community to be aware that there are good people driving courteously this holiday season.â€
Each driver cited will receive a $10 gift certificate at Vons and a free oil-filter change at Jiffy Lube. They will also be invited to a January luncheon in their honor.
Kaluhikaua said club members will travel with a sheriff’s deputy, and the patrol car’s flashing lights will be used to stop 10 good motorists. The deputy will immediately explain to the drivers that they haven’t violated traffic rules and will give them awards for considerate driving, Kaluhikaua said.
The program will end Friday or after 10 motorists are cited, whichever comes first, he said.
