It’s Time That Supervisor Roth Left the Board

The most recent revelation regarding Supervisor Roth’s misconduct, having a developer provide landscaping as a gift and not reporting it, clearly shows that this is more than a single indiscretion or the result of a bad divorce (“Developers Did Unpaid Landscaping for Roth,†Nov. 21). It is a pattern of disregard for the law and the continued exercise of bad judgment.

A public needs to have confidence that its elected officials are representing the needs of the citizens. All confidence in Supervisor Roth has eroded. He can no longer claim that he effectively represents those he was elected to serve. Further, as the number and the details of his indiscretions mount, one wonders whether he was primarily serving his own economic interests or the interests of the citizens of Orange County as a supervisor.

Hopefully, the district attorney’s office will act in an expeditious manner. In the interim, Supervisor Roth would be well advised to resign his position and remove the shadow he is casting over the Board of Supervisors--a shadow the board does not deserve.
