Mystery surrounds the shooting of a 30-old-year man found lying in the street with bullet wounds in his back, police said Wednesday.
The victim, David Patrick Gallagher, survived the shooting and is in stable condition at a Long Beach hospital, police said.
Officers said that the reason for the attempted murder is unknown but that evidence showed the gunman was somewhere near Gallagher and shot him repeatedly in the back, Police Sgt. Ed Ethell said.
Ethell said police found Gallagher about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Starling Circle and Sparrow Lane. Officers had gone to the scene after receiving a report of “possible shots fired,” Ethell said.
Gallagher was given emergency treatment at the scene by Orange County Fire Department paramedics, then taken to the Long Beach hospital, Ethell said.
“At this time we have no suspects or motive for the shooting,” Ethell said. “The case is under investigation.”
