Emerson Combines Units: Electronics manufacturer Emerson Electric Co. said Friday that it is combining an Irvine division, which makes devices to protect computers from surges and interruptions in power, with an Ohio subsidiary that makes similar devices for larger computer networks. The only visible change is the name on the front of its Geronimo Road building, says the division, Emerson Computer Power, which will become part of Liebert Corp. in Columbus, Ohio, and will now be called Liebert. The combination gives both better access to each other’s markets and simplifies distribution, the companies said. Emerson Electric, the parent company, is a $7.4-billion manufacturer based in St. Louis.
