Pepperdine Wins in Two Overtimes

Senior forward Bryon Jenson scored 26 points and guard Damin Lopez had 21 as Pepperdine opened its 1992-93 basketball season Thursday night at Malibu with a 106-94 two-overtime victory over Lafayette.

Pepperdine, which shot 63% from the field, outscored Lafayette, 18-6, in the second overtime to win. All the Waves’ starters scored in double figures as Bryan Parker and Derek Noether had 18 each and Dana Jones added 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Hustlers were led by 6-foot-9 center Mel McCants, who had 29 points and 10 rebounds. Derrick Johnson added 18 points for the Indiana school.

Lafayette made 36 of 83 shots compared to Pepperdine’s 40 of 64. Still, the Hustlers led at halftime, 42-41, and were tied at the end of regulation, 77-77.
