City Restores Win, Tie for Cleveland in 1991
It took several weeks, but the Cleveland High football team doubled its victory total for the 1991 season and removed an asterisk in the process.
Cleveland forfeited a win and a tie last season after admitting that it used an ineligible player early in the season. In the spring, however, the player’s eligibility was reinstated by a City Section review panel.
Cleveland Coach Everett Macy filed his own appeal to the City this fall, and the official record has been amended to its pre-forfeit status. The Cavaliers finished 2-6-1 in 1991, improving from 1-8 before the record was corrected.
Losers in the process were Taft and Monroe, which had been granted the forfeit victories.
Taft tied Cleveland, 14-14, and Monroe lost, 24-8, to the Cavaliers. Consequently, Taft finished 0-8-1 and Monroe finished 1-8.
