New Administration

Having finally voted for people who won, I am very pleased that Clinton will be our next President. Like Arthur Schlesinger, I also subscribe to the notion that pivotal elections happen in general 30-year cycles; Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and now young Bill Clinton. But it also seems that the 30-year effect is brewing in Europe, with troubling signs--neo-Nazi rightists attacking foreigners, chants of “Germany for the Germans”; in Italy, Mussolini’s granddaughter, now in its parliament, calls for a new leader not unlike her grandfather.
What’s going on here? I sure hope it’s not deja vu.
