Warhol Sale: Andy Warhol’s “Marilyn x 100,� a 1962 silk screen of 100 images of the actress’s face, brought $3.74 million Tuesday during the second week of the fall art auctions at Sotheby’s in New York. It was not the highest price paid for a Warhol work--his “Red Shot Marilyn� brought $4 million in 1989. Another 77 works of contemporary art, estimated at $26 million to $33 million, were up for sale, and 51 sold for a total of $23.4 million. The 1984 neon work “One Hundred Live and Die� by Bruce Nauman, expected to sell for up to $800,000, sold for $1.9 million. An untitled piece from 1956 by Cy Twombly went for $2.1 million. David Hockney’s portrait of two friends, “Henry Geldzahler and Christopher Scott� from 1968-1969, went for $1.1 million. Robert Rauschenberg’s 1964 “Press� also sold for $1.1 million, as did Mark Rothko’s 1958 “Brown, Black & Blue.�
