Wake Forest accepted a berth in the Independence Bowl Monday against an opponent yet to be selected.
The 25th-ranked Demon Deacons (7-3) are in the midst of a six-game winning streak under Coach Bill Dooley, who announced before the season that this will be his last year.
Mississippi State (7-3), ranked 18th, received an invitation to the Peach Bowl Jan. 2 at Atlanta to play an Atlantic Coast Conference team.
New Mexico freshman tailback Winslow Oliver will miss the Lobos’ game Saturday against Colorado State because of a torn ligament in his right knee, but doctors say he will not require surgery.
