COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine’s Goodrich Reaches Nationals in Cross-Country
UC Irvine’s Traci Goodrich qualified for the NCAA national championship cross-country meet Saturday, finishing fourth in the District 8 Championships at the Randolph South Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.
The Irvine and Cal State Fullerton men’s and women’s teams failed to advance to the nationals Nov. 23 in Bloomington, Ind.
Goodrich, who covered the 5,000-meter women’s course in 17 minutes 35.88 seconds, led Irvine to sixth. Louise Watson of Stanford won in 17:20.37. Washington won the team race with 90 points, followed by Arizona and Oregon with 94 each. Irvine had 129 and Fullerton 161.
Heather Killeen was 12th for the Titans in 18:02.26.
Arizona won the men’s race with 27 points, ahead of Oregon’s 64. Irvine finished sixth with 165 and Fullerton 10th with 230.
Fullerton’s Mike Tansley finished 10th individually, covering 10,000 meters in 31:54.9. Mike Nielsen was Irvine’s top finisher, 17th in 32:20.1. Washington State’s Joe Kapkroy won in 30:41.7.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:
UC Irvine 8, Pepperdine 6--Marc Hunt scored three goals to lead fourth-ranked Irvine (17-8). No. 5 Pepperdine is 16-9.
In the CS Bakersfield women’s swimming and diving relays:
UC Irvine wins--Liz Koch, Brooke Hunter and Esme Lombard set a meet record in the 300 backstroke relay for the Anteaters, who won five relay events.
In the CS Bakersfield men’s swimming and diving relays:
UC Irvine second--Greg Dividio and Michael Hernandez won the diving as Irvine finished second to Bakersfield, 149 to 155.5.
