Man Killed While Crossing Road

LAGUNA BEACH — A 38-year-old man was struck and killed Friday night by a car while crossing Laguna Canyon Road, police said.
Willie James Betts of Laguna Beach apparently darted across the street without checking for traffic, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 p.m.
Witnesses told police the driver of the car, Melody White, 41, of San Clemente, “had no chance of stopping,” according to Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Lance Ishmael. White was not cited in the incident.
