Mater Dei Infielder Commits to Santa Clara
Jeff Frankel, an infielder at Mater Dei High, has committed to play at Santa Clara, Monarch baseball Coach Bob Ickes said Friday.
Frankel was an All-Angelus League selection, batting .400 with 22 runs batted in.
Signing Friday during the NCAA’s early signing period were Huntington Beach pitcher Ryan Brannan, with the University of Miami, and former Rosary softball player Kristina Luna, with DePaul.
Brannan is a 6-foot-6 right-hander. Mike Dodd, Huntington Beach baseball coach, said Brannan throws harder than Jon Ward, 1992 county player of the year for Huntington Beach, but that he didn’t pitch last season because of control problems.
Luna’s signing was confirmed by her father, Frank. Luna, a shortstop/third baseman, hit just over .300 last spring in her senior season at Rosary and was named to the North County All-Star team. She is taking classes at Cypress College.
