British Girl ‘Divorces’ Parents
LONDON — An 11-year-old British girl has been granted a “divorce†from her mother and stepfather by a county court and given permission to live with her grandparents, her lawyer said Wednesday. It was the first such decision in Britain.
The girl, from Torquay in southwest England, could not be named for legal reasons. Her lawyer said she did not get along with her stepfather. Her mother contested the case.
In the United States last September, a Florida court allowed a 12-year-old boy to divorce his parents and be adopted by his foster family.
