2 Suspects Seized in CSUN Stakeout

Two men who were under surveillance by Cal State Northridge campus police were arrested on suspicion of robbery after leading officers on a high-speed chase that resulted in a series of minor traffic accidents, authorities said Saturday.

Daryl Profit, 24, of Long Beach, and Deziney Buckner, 25, of Wilmington, were being held at Van Nuys Jail in lieu of $21,000 and $10,000 bail, respectively, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. John Amott.

The two men were under surveillance by campus police because a third man reported that they had stolen a gold necklace from him and threatened to kill him unless he gave them money at a prearranged meeting Saturday afternoon, said Sgt. Don Barnett of the CSUN Police Department.

The third man and intended victim, who was identified only as the boyfriend of a CSUN student, told campus police that he and the other two individuals were partners in a credit card scam, Barnett said. He was not arrested Saturday, but is being investigated in connection with the alleged scam, Barnett added.

When police attempted to break up the meeting, one of the two men pulled a gun and then they fled east on Lassen Street in their car, Amott said. Driving at speeds of 80 to 90 m.p.h., they struck two cars, causing minor damage but no injuries, before abandoning the car in a parking lot on Balboa Boulevard, south of Lassen Street, he said. They fled on and were caught shortly afterward, he said.

However, they left the abandoned vehicle in gear and it collided with two parked cars, Amott said.
