U.N. Chief to Hike Number of Women in Policy Posts

UNITED NATIONS — Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the U.N. secretary general, promised Friday to raise the number of women in policy-making positions to “as close as possible” to 50% by 1995, the 50th anniversary of the world body.
Outlining a reorganization plan for senior staff, the secretary general also proposed that the Security Council take action when U.N. staff lives are in danger.
