Move the McDonald’s
Although the Oxnard City Planning Commission has killed the McDonald’s proposed for Oxnard Airport, the project is still very much alive. McDonald’s and the developer, Raznick and Sons, will appeal the project to the City Council.
Will the City Council overturn the Planning Commission decision to declare this project unsafe? In the last few years it has become clear the city knows or cares little about proper airport land-use and safety. Allowing a shopping center and/or McDonald’s in a runway protection zone at the immediate front (and back) of Oxnard Airport runway, creates an unmitigable safety hazard. The environmental impact reports for the project states that fact.
Twenty years ago, 23 people, mostly children, were killed by an aircraft that crashed into a Farrells ice cream parlor at the airport in Sacramento. Apparently McDonald’s, the city and the developer are asking history to repeat itself, putting peoples lives at risk for the almighty dollar.
