Plaisance Takes Blame for Rules Violation as Village Christian Serves Minor Penalty
Village Christian High football Coach Mike Plaisance, whose team was penalized this week by the Southern Section for what it called a minor violation, said the infraction was his fault because he misunderstood the rules.
Village Christian (6-0, 1-0 in Alpha league play) was not allowed to practice Friday as punishment for a rules violation during a Southern Section-mandated “dead period†in August.
Plaisance told Alpha League coaches at a September meeting that after a weightlifting session several players had run wind sprints in violation of Southern Section rules.
After administrators at league rival Maranatha contacted Village Christian Principal Ken Gustafson this week, he reported the violation to the Southern Section, which imposed the one-practice penalty.
Maranatha (1-6, 0-1) will play Village Christian tonight. Maranatha Principal Stephen Allen said the timing of his contact with Gustafson had nothing to do with the game this week.
