AWARD-WINNING COUPLE: Longtime Studio City residents Marvin and Shirley Selter will receive the “Red Yarmulka Humanitarian Award†from the Pacific Southwest Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs on Nov. 8.

Marvin Selter serves on the board of directors of both the University of Judaism and Sinai Temple in Los Angeles and was past president of Hollywood Temple Beth El. Shirley Selter is past president of both the Laurel chapter of B’nai B’rith Women and the University of Judaism Women. Together, they established the Selter Family Foundation in the late 1980s to provide scholarships to University of Judaism students who could not otherwise afford to attend.

One of their main goals has been to preserve and promote Jewish culture.

“I see there’s a definite denigration and erosion of the Jewish tradition,†said Marvin Selter, who is chairman of the board of National Staff Network, which handles personnel department duties for companies. “We need to show, especially the children, what Judaism is.â€
