Williams to Make Clipper Debut
John Williams is expected to make his Clipper debut tonight in an exhibition game at Dallas, the opener of a three-game trip that concludes preseason play.
Williams, acquired in a trade from Washington the day before training camp opened, has not suited up for any of the Clippers’ first four games as he works to get into shape. The former Crenshaw High star, who was suspended all last season by the Bullets for being overweight, is still about 30 pounds over the desired 260.
Coach Larry Brown said Williams, Stanley Roberts and Elmore Spencer have been making “unbelievable progress.â€
The trip continues Saturday at San Antonio in what will be Brown’s first appearance at HemisFair Arena since he was fired by the Spurs in January. He said any feelings of anxiety will be minimal, since this is an exhibition and his Clippers already played the Spurs last season at the Sports Arena.
