ALPINE : 4th Man Arrested in Migrant Attack
A fourth man has been taken into custody in connection with the Oct. 1 vigilante baseball bat attack in Alpine, sources said Wednesday.
Christopher Stephen Hastings, 21, of El Cajon was charged Wednesday in El Cajon Municipal Court with assault with a deadly weapon, battery with intent to inflict great bodily injury, and committing a planned hate crime, a court official said.
His bail has been set at $100,000.
Also in custody are Dan Stout, 35, of Alpine, the husband of the woman whose purported rape prompted the attack; Ronald Aishman, 26, of Spring Valley; and Charles Edward Nocita, 28, of El Cajon.
They all face the same charges as Hastings.
A criminal complaint has been filed against Ronald Inman, 22, of El Cajon, who is not yet in custody.
There were two outstanding warrants for Hastings’ arrest. One was for a criminal complaint and the other for a traffic violation, a court official said.
No charges have been filed in the alleged rape of Stout’s wife, and the investigation has been closed. After the woman told her husband she had been raped near a migrant encampment he and several friends threatened the migrants for a week before the baseball bat attack occurred, witnesses said.
