Alhambra : Waste Plant Plan Criticized
A City Council decision to request bidders for an environmental impact study of the proposed expansion of a hazardous-waste processing facility has drawn criticism from some Alhambra residents.
Lola Armendariz complained that no information had been released on new substances Summit Environmental Facility intends to process. The facility at 3033 West Mission Road processes and recycles solvents, paint and petroleum products.
An initial study by city staff determined that an environmental impact report, focusing on the risk of accidental explosion and the possible increase in vehicular traffic in the area, was needed.
