Bolsa Chica Field Trip--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society will host a bird-watching field trip to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve on Monday.
Bolsa Chica is a great spot for seeing many of the bird species that inhabit the county’s coastal wetlands. Wintering waterfowl, shorebirds, loons, grebes, herons and egrets are in abundance this time of year there.
There will be a special section for beginning bird-watchers during the field trip.
Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes because the trip does include a moderate amount of walking, and to bring any binoculars and bird guides they might have. Also, it gets cold at the coast this time of year, so those participating are advised to wear layered clothing.
The trip begins at 8 a.m. and will end about noon.
Those who would like to participate in the trip are asked to meet at the ecological reserve’s parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway about one-half mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.
For more information call the chapter office at (714) 543-7393.
Young Audubons Meeting--The South Coast Audubon Society will host a Young Audubons program Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Club of San Clemente.
The program begins at 6 p.m. and will include a slide show on owls. Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome.
The club is at 1304 Calle Valle, San Clemente.
