Murder charges were filed Wednesday against a 17-year-old suspected of the murder of Eduardo Samaniego, a 14-year-old Pomona Little Leaguer shot to death the week he was to testify in a gang-related murder.
According to Pomona police, the suspect, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested Tuesday. Murder charges were filed in Pomona Juvenile Court.
Samaniego was one of about 15 youths present Nov. 10, 1991, when Luis Lopez of Pomona was killed in a drive-by shooting. Murder charges were filled against Philip Salazar, 19, and Arthur Melendrez, 22, and a trial was set for Aug. 18. But someone summoned Samaniego from his home and the fatally wounded youth was found an hour later in a nearby alley. The trial has been rescheduled.
