Defense has always been a major part in the success of the Golden West water polo program, which has won the last three State titles. The last two years, the Golden West goalie has been selected the most valuable player of the State tournament.
Douglas, from Los Amigos High School, appears ready to continue that string for Golden West, the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Last week, Golden West won four times, including victories over two highly ranked teams.
Douglas had 16 saves in an 8-5 victory over third-ranked Long Beach, and 13 saves in an 8-3 victory over fifth-ranked Grossmont. He had 51 saves and allowed 15 goals in four games for the week.
Other top performers:
Marcellus Chrishon, who scored four touchdowns and rushed for 219 yards in Saddleback’s 41-12 victory over Fullerton.
Cypress wrestlers James Lopez (126 pounds) and Phil Zimolzak (190), who each finished second at the Cerritos tournament.
