Local Surfers Advance at San Francisco Event

Laguna Niguel’s Pat O’Connell and San Clemente’s Gavin Beschen won their first-round heats to advance to the main event of the Body Glove San Francisco Open surfing championships Friday at Ocean Beach.
Among the surfers competing today will be U.S. champion Mike Parsons of San Clemente, Newport Beach’s Richie Collins and San Clemente’s Shane Beschen, Gavin’s older brother and the current U.S. tour points leader.
