Santa Ana Comes Up Short of First Victory
SANTA ANA — A valiant Santa Ana comeback came up inches short, giving Marina a hard-fought 20-17 victory at Santa Ana Stadium on Friday night.
With his team facing a fourth down and six and a little more than two minutes left, Saint quarterback Mark Fausto was dragged down on Marina’s 38, leaving his team six inches short of a first down and a possible dramatic comeback.
“When we play with the intensity like we did in the second half, we’re not a bad team,†Santa Ana Coach Bob Hinman said.
The Vikings, 3-3 and 2-1 in the Sunset League, did not complete a pass. John Marvos had 200 yards in 30 carries. Tony Parrish scored two touchdowns, and Travis Anderson scored the other.
The Saints (0-5, 0-3) were kept in the game by Fausto, who passed for 210 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 68.
