KIEV, Ukraine — A crew member survived the crash of a giant Ukrainian military transport plane by parachuting from the plunging aircraft, Interior Ministry officials said Wednesday.
A ministry spokesman said the man was in serious condition in a hospital after the aircraft came down Tuesday in woodland about 35 miles west of Kiev.
The other eight people aboard the Ruslan aircraft, one of the world’s largest transport planes, were believed dead, although rescue workers had not yet found all the bodies.
