The body of a Burbank man who disappeared last week while scuba diving off Catalina Island was discovered by a fishing boat near Point Dume, authorities said Sunday.
The man was identified as Christopher Corso, 40, said M. Riddle, a supervising investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. The cause of death would not be known until an autopsy has been completed, Riddle said.
Corso was reported missing a week ago by people on a commercial recreational boat from which he had been diving at the west end of Catalina Island, Los Angeles County Lifeguard Capt. Tom Viren said.
Corso was diving with a group of people who all surfaced around the same time, Viren said.
“Between the time they surfaced and the time they swam over to the boat all of the sudden he was missing,” Viren said.
The Coast Guard, lifeguards and Sheriff’s Department searched for Corso. His body was found Friday about 1:42 p.m. by a fishing boat about 3 1/2 miles south of Point Dume, Viren said. Lifeguards were notified and recovered the body, he said.
