VENTURA : Vandals Wreck Light Poles on Pier
Authorities on Sunday were investigating the destruction of a dozen light poles on the Ventura Pier, which is closed for renovation.
Vandals apparently snapped the poles off at their bases late Friday or early Saturday and pushed them into the water, lifeguard Curtis Price said. The 20-foot-long wooden poles were bolted to the pier and topped off with expensive halogen bulbs, Price said.
The Ventura Harbor Patrol fished six of the poles out of the water Saturday. The other six washed ashore and were recovered, Price said.
There was no immediate damage estimate. The vandalism is under investigation by officials from the state Department of Parks and Recreation.
