Rio de Janeiro, Santiago New Interhostel Stops : Visits to Greek Islands of Mykonos and Delos also added to spring program of study and travel.

New trips to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, have been added to the 1993 Interhostel International Spring Study/Travel Program for travelers 50 and over.

In all, 15 spring programs are offered by Interhostel, now in its 14th year--to Europe, Central and South America, Mexico and Australia. Fifteen additional programs will be offered next summer.

The 16-day program to Rio, set for March 7-22, 1993, provides time to see and enjoy the city and its famed beaches, and to learn of its

culture through museum visits and social activities. Cost is $1,675 plus air fare.

During the two weeks in Santiago, the Interhostel group will explore the early colonial heart of the city and its museums. Dates are March 21 to April 5, and the price is $1,875 plus air fare.

In addition to the two new programs offered, Interhostel has added a three-day visit to the Aegean Islands of Mykonos and Delos in its annual program to Athens. The trip is set for May 12- 26 and priced at $2,075 plus air fare.

Other Interhostel programs next spring are: Melbourne-Broken Hill-Adelaide, Australia, Feb. 11- 26, priced at $2,045; Oaxaca-Tabasco-Chiapas, Mexico, Feb. 12-25, $1,495; Tikal, Guatemala, March 3-16, $1,525; Lisbon-Oporto, Portugal, March 7-21, $1,875; Florence, Italy, March 10-24 and March 25-April 8, $1,850.

All prices are per person, double occupancy. Single supplements approach 50% more. In the Chile program, for example, the single supplement is $895.

Included on all trips are accommodations, which can range from dormitory rooms at universities to small inns or modern hotels, and meals, from cafeteria-style fare in universities to family-style in restaurants. Air fare is not included.

Through its small groups, usually 30 or fewer, Interhostel emphasizes cultural awareness with lectures, excursions, social and cultural events, plus activities with local residents. The programs are planned with the assistance of an overseas university or educational institution. Interhostel does not offer domestic trips.

The Delta Queen Steamboat Co. cruise planners cater to seniors who love to swing and sway to the sounds of Big Band and Dixieland music. More than a dozen Mississippi River cruises are being offered early next year with senior travelers in mind.

Eight three- to six-day cruises out of New Orleans on the Mississippi Queen, called “Big Band Steamboatin’ Vacations,†will feature dance music and the live Big Band sounds of such groups as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Les Elgart Orchestra, Sammy Kaye Orchestra, the Ink Spots, Jack Morgan and the Russ Morgan Orchestra, and the Four Lads. At least one--and sometimes two--of those groups will appear on each cruise, from Jan. 25 to Feb. 26.

For Dixieland fans, the smaller, more intimate Delta Queen offers six three- to seven-day cruises out of New Orleans starting Feb. 5. They will feature either the Preservation Hall Jazz Band or clarinet legend Pete Fountain.
