Teachers Overwhelmingly OK New Detroit Contract

DETROIT — City schoolteachers have approved a new two-year contract by an 8-to-1 margin, bringing to an official end the labor dispute that led to a monthlong strike. The agreement was approved 7,600 to 911, the Detroit Federation of Teachers announced Thursday. It provides a 4% pay increase this year, and 3% next year contingent on the collection of delinquent city taxes.
