VAN NUYS : Dentist Pleads Not Guilty to Assault
A Reseda dentist pleaded not guilty in Van Nuys Municipal Court on Friday to three felony charges of sexually assaulting a woman in his office, authorities said.
Kamal Matian, 46, was charged with one count each of sexual battery, digital penetration and false imprisonment in connection with a Sept. 11 incident, Deputy Dist. Atty. Renee Urman said.
If convicted, Matian faces a maximum of 12 years and eight months in prison, she said. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 2.
The incident allegedly occurred in the lunchroom of the dentist’s office in the 18700 block of Sherman Way, Urman said.
“She ran out of the office and the dentist chased her down the street,†Urman said.
Witnesses saw him chasing her and flagged down a police car, Urman said. Matian was arrested on suspicion of one count of sexual battery but subsequent investigations led to the filing of additional charges.
