CAMARILLO : Driver Killed in Crash Identified
A driver killed when his vehicle overturned on the Ventura Freeway at the Conejo Grade has been identified as a 31-year-old Woodland Hills man.
Kelley Drake died of head injuries Wednesday evening after he swerved to avoid another car as he climbed the grade just east of Camarillo Springs Road, Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese said Thursday.
Drake was driving an all-terrain vehicle at 75 m.p.h. when he attempted to change lanes, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Ahead of him, Paul Shattuck, 31, of Venice had briefly lost power in his sedan while shifting to a lower gear, the spokesman said.
Drake swerved to the left, but his vehicle clipped the sedan and rolled several times before coming to rest on its side, the spokesman said.
Shattuck suffered minor injuries, but his passengers were uninjured, authorities said.
