Deputy Injured When Hit by Car
MISSION VIEJO — An Orange County sheriff’s deputy on a motorcycle was struck by a car Thursday evening, causing a SigAlert and the closing of two lanes of the San Diego Freeway for an hour.
The officer was in serious but stable condition Thursday night, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Neither his name nor that of the hospital where he was taken was released.
Police said the officer was not moving when he was hit by an oncoming car about 6:20 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near La Paz Road. It was not immediately known if the driver stopped after the accident.
Traffic was diverted as ambulances and police cars swarmed the scene, witnesses said.
