Westwood : UCLA Gets $100,000 Grant
The UCLA School of Public Health has received $100,000 to establish a fund for health services research.
The gift was made by Samuel and Audrey Tibbitts of San Marino. A UCLA graduate, Samuel Tibbitts is chairman of UniHealth America, the second largest hospital system in California, and chairman of PacifiCare Health Systems, a health maintenance organization.
In announcing the gift, Abdelmonem Afifi, dean of the school, said: “Our state and nation are facing critical decisions in how to provide and manage health care in the next 10 years. There has never been a more urgent need for research to help us understand and direct the course of those decisions.â€
He thanked the Tibbittses for “their commitment to the school and the future of health care in the United States.â€
