Quincentennial Cookbook: A Corona del Mar restaurant is offering numerous chances to win Italian cookbooks to commemorate Christopher Columbus’ 1492 voyage to America.
Columbus, who has been taking his historical lumps lately, may have sailed on behalf of Spain, but he was Italian, after all. So Carmelo Manto, founder of Carmelo’s Ristorante, is handing out copies of “Columbus Menu,†an Italian Trade Commission guide to recipes based on ingredients found in the New World.
To enter the contest to win one of the books, pen a pithy line to follow “In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.†Drop it off at the restaurant, or mail it to Carmelo’s Ristorante, 3520 E. Coast Highway, Corona del Mar, 92626.
