William Vega, drawing support from businesses opposed to the downtown redevelopment project, has raised the most campaign funds among the nine candidates running for two seats on the City Council, finance records show.

Vega, at one time a leader of the Brea Small Business Coalition, raised $7,595 in contributions, almost $3,000 more than his nearest rival in the Nov. 3 election.

According to financial statements provided by the city clerk’s office, the owners of Iron Horse and Sam’s Place, which the Redevelopment Agency wants relocated from the 50-acre downtown redevelopment area, contributed $1,000 each to Vega’s campaign.
