A look at the top games Friday night in the Southern and City sections.
SOUTHERN SECTION SCORE: Eisenhower (1) 14, El Toro 14 SYNOPSIS: Unranked El Toro (2-2) stopped two Eisenhower drives near the goal line in the fourth quarter to tie the top-ranked Eagles (3-0-1) in a nonleague game. SCORE: Bishop Amat (2) 33, Arroyo Grande 0 SYNOPSIS: The Lancers, led by Rodney Sermons’four touchdowns, scored 26 points in the third quarter and improved to 4-0. SCORE: Muir (5) 47, La Canada 8 SYNOPSIS: Muir (3-1), coming off a 6-3 loss to top-ranked Eisenhower, jumped in front when quarterback Andy Colbert scored on a 90-yard run in the first quarter. SCORE: North Torrance 20, Peninsula (17) 9 SYNOPSIS: Quarterback Frank Ramirez completed 14 of 23 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Saxons (4-0) at Peninsula (3-1). SCORE: Rowland 28, California 0 SYNOPSIS: Corey Shaw rushed for 83 yards in 10 carries and returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown to lead the Raiders (2-2). SCORE: Los Altos 17, Diamond Bar 6 SYNOPSIS: Brian Gleason, who kicked a 53-yard field goal last week, had field goals of 23,28 and 42 yards to lead the Conquerors (4-0). SCORE: Rancho Alamitos (14) 43, Garden Grove 13 SYNOPSIS: Jeff Byrd rushed for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Vaqueros (3-1) in a Garden Grove League game at Garden Grove (2-2). SCORE: San Marino 24, Harvard-Westlake 7 SYNOPSIS: The Titans (2-1), coming off a 47-7 loss to Saugus, were led by Tom Moreland, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns. SCORE: LB Wilson 42, Arcadia 8 SYNOPSIS: The Bruins (2-1-1) won for the first time in three weeks, paced by touchdowns receptions of 56 and 18 yards by Devious Benton. SCORE: Walnut 35, Northview 0 SYNOPSIS: Larry Brown returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and then ran 42 yards for another touchdown to lead the Mustangs (4-0). SCORE: Montclair Prep 48, Holtville 13 SYNOPSIS: Eliel Swinton, regarded as one of the Southland’s top prospects, rushed for 152 yards in 12 carries to lead Montclair Prep (4-0) to an easy win at Valley College. SCORE: Montebello 21, El Rancho 14 SYNOPSIS: The Oilers (4-0) scored all three of their touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally from a 14-0 deficit.
CITY SECTION SCORE: Belmont 13, Eagle Rock 7 SYNOPSIS: Ben Martinez scored on a 62-yard trick pass play as time expired to lift the Sentinels (3-1) in a Northern Conference game at Eagle Rock (1-3). SCORE: Crenshaw 24, Wilmington Banning (18) 6 SYNOPSIS: Saeed Akman rushed for 71 yards in 12 carries to lead the Cougars (3-1) to the upset over visiting Banning (2-2) in a Southern Pacific Conference game. SCORE: Marshall 32, Wilson 3 SYNOPSIS: Aman Abye rushed for 120 yards in nine carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Barristers (3-1) in a Northern Conference game. SCORE: Jefferson 44, Jordan 6 SYNOPSIS: The Democrats (2-2) jumped to a 31-0 halftime lead en route to an easy Southeastern Conference victory. Jordan dropped to 0-3. SCORE: Fairfax 31, Los Angeles 6 SYNOPSIS: Slot back Az-Zahir Hakim rushed for one touchdown and passed for another to lead the Lions (1-3) in a Coastal Conference opener. SCORE: Washington 24, Gardena 7 SYNOPSIS: Wide receiver Anthony Warren caught three passes for 53 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Generals (3-0) in a Southern Pacific Conference game. SCORE: Birmingham 14, Grant 8 SYNOPSIS: The Braves (2-1) scored on their first two possessions and then relied on their defense in a Valley Pac-Eight Conference victory at Grant (0-3-1). SCORE: Venice 15, Manual Arts 6 SYNOPSIS: Running back Larry Atkins gained 109 yards in 14 carries to lead the Gondoliers (1-2), who scored their first points of the season in the Coastal Conference opener.
