PREP ROUNDUP : Liniger, Weaver Pace Edison in Volleyball

Alicia Liniger and Brooke Weaver each had 16 kills to help Edison to a four-game victory over Fountain Valley in a Sunset League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at Fountain Valley.

Liniger also had 13 blocks for the third-ranked Chargers (5-0, 3-0 in league), who won, 16-14, 10-15, 15-9, 15-7. Lisa Brown had 16 kills for Fountain Valley (2-3, 2-1).

In another Sunset League match:

Huntington Beach 3, Ocean View 0--Deana Itow had eight kills to help Huntington Beach (3-2, 3-0) to a 15-4, 15-5, 15-4 victory.

Rosary 3, Westminster 1--Wendy Polnaszek had 11 kills for Rosary (1-2 in league) in an 8-15, 15-13, 15-9, 15-12 victory over Westminster.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Cypress 0--Rachel Hochgesang had 10 kills as host Sunny Hills (5-0) defeated Cypress, 15-13, 15-11, 15-12. Pam Hause had nine kills and three aces for Cypress (3-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 3, Rancho Alamitos 2--Lisa Nguyen and Rita Pula each had 10 kills for host Bolsa Grande (3-3, 1-2), which won, 7-15, 15-11, 15-7, 11-15, 15-10. Laura Salazar had 12 kills for Rancho Alamitos (0-3 in league).

Kennedy 3, Pacifica 0--Lisa Pitt had seven kills for visiting Kennedy (5-0, 3-0), which won, 15-5, 15-10, 15-10.

La Quinta 3, Garden Grove 1--Carin Whittington had 14 kills for visiting La Quinta (2-3, 2-1) in a 15-5, 13-15, 15-3, 15-9 victory. Stephanie Meehan had 10 kills for Garden Grove (2-2, 1-2).

Santiago 3, Los Amigos 0--Jennifer Morris had 13 kills in a 15-1, 15-11, 15-12 league victory over Los Amigos.

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Valley Christian 0--Kathleen Bunce had 13 kills for host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-0) in a 15-7, 15-7, 15-6 victory over Valley Christian (1-1).

Newport Harbor 3, Woodbridge 1--Misty May had 20 kills for host Newport Harbor (4-0, 3-0), which won, 15-13, 15-11, 12-15, 15-3. Jo Kaneko had six kills for visiting Woodbridge (2-5, 1-2).

University 3, Saddleback 1--Ashleigh Cross had 10 kills for University (2-3, 2-1) in a 15-2, 11-15, 15-4, 15-8 victory.

Corona del Mar 3, Tustin 0--Lori Newcomer had five kills for Corona del Mar (5-0, 3-0) in a 15-2, 15-7, 15-1 victory.

Laguna Beach 3, San Clemente 0--Rachel Wacholder had 22 kills and seven aces, Hilary Kyle had 17 kills and Erin Bratcher had 33 assists for visiting Laguna Beach (4-0), which won, 15-8, 15-3, 15-9.

In Century League girls’ tennis:

El Modena 11, Foothill 7--Brandi Freudenberg swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, for host El Modena (4-3, 1-0).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 12, Loara 6--Stephanie Lavoie and Dyonne Tetangco led an Esperanza sweep in doubles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 15, Garden Grove 3--Lynn Wu swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to help La Quinta (5-3, 4-0) to a victory over Garden Grove (4-4, 0-3).

Brea-Olinda 12, Western 6--No. 1 singles player Rachel Buenviaje helped Brea-Olinda (8-1, 1-0) to its first league victory with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 sweep over her Western (7-2, 0-1) opponents.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 18, Tustin 0--Ranee Rhodes and Courtney Berlinger swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for visiting Corona del Mar (6-0, 4-0).

Newport Harbor 10, Woodbridge 8--Sarah Hawkins and Jennifer Jacob swept in singles for Newport Harbor (6-1, 3-1).
