No Favors for Non-Residents
We have noted recently that three of our elected community college board members--Greg Cole, Karen Boone and Pete Tafoya--have approved a resolution that favors allowing one and all to become students of our community colleges without paying a non-residency fee for undocumented students. We wonder why undocumented students are receiving such favors when throughout the years students from other states have been charged an out-of-state fee?
When legal residents are having difficulty paying taxes and fees for their families to survive the current economy, certainly they should not be paying for people who have not respected our immigration laws and are here illegally. In a lot of cases, legal residents are wondering how to pay the tuition for their children.
Our schools at all levels are having difficulty finding room for the additional students created by mass invasion of our borders. Budget cuts are canceling required classes for graduation.
We hope our elected board will review its stand on this issue. My neighbors and friends are not in favor of educating people who are breaking our laws.
