COUNTYWIDE : Police Arrest 2 at Checkpoints
Setting up three drunk-driving roadblocks, officers with the Ventura Police Department’s Special Operations Division stopped 328 drivers Friday night and arrested two on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The checkpoints were at Ventura Avenue and Main Street, Johnson Drive and Crescent Street, and Harbor Boulevard at Schooner Drive, Lt. Steve Bowman said in a statement.
In addition to making arrests, Bowman said the intent of the operation was to educate the public to the dangers of drinking and driving. All the drivers who were stopped were given informational handouts on driving under the influence and traffic collisions in the city.
Ventura officers were assisted by volunteers from the Ventura County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Ventura County district attorney’s office and other local groups, Bowman said.
