CAMARILLO : $15-Million Sewer Bond Issuance OKd
The Camarillo City Council has approved the issuance of $15 million worth of bonds to upgrade the sewage treatment plant on Howard Road near Calleguas Creek.
City officials intend to repay the certificates of participation with development fees and a possible rate hike for the 10,500 commercial and residential users of the sewage plant, Assistant City Manager Larry Davis said.
In a 4-0 vote Wednesday with Mayor Stanley J. Daily absent, the council gave staff the financial go-ahead for the project, which will expand the capacity of the plant, Davis said.
The plant, which handles 4 million gallons daily, has the capacity to process 5 million gallons, he said.
But based on growth projections, Davis said the plant will need to accept 6 million gallons daily by the year 2000. It also must meet higher federal standards for effluent.
Engineering plans for the improvements are now being prepared, and the city expects to solicit bids for the project next month, Davis said.
Construction is slated to begin next spring and should take 2 1/2 years, he said.
