Occupation: Aerospace software manager.

Background: Fountain Valley resident and father of three; treasurer of Orange County Children’s Theatre and Huntington Beach YMCA Indian Princesses.

Priorities: To treat parents in the district as partners and to encourage industry partnerships; to use creative school financing without investing money from the sale of schools in the stock market; to concentrate spending priorities on teachers and not lawyers.

Reuben Goldsheft

Age: 42.

Occupation: Sales supervisor.

Background: Fountain Valley resident and father of two; board member of the Fountain Valley Educational Foundation; Parent-Teacher Assn. involvement; American Youth Soccer Organization coach and referee.

Priorities: To give administrators, teachers and parents more input into curriculum and activities; to ensure that district money is invested safely; maximize uses of existing surplus school sites; to lobby for a greater percentage of tax dollars for education.

Catherine K. Hacker

Age: 35.

Occupation: Pediatric registered nurse, incumbent.

Background: Appointed to the Board of Education in May, replacing Michael Novak who resigned; Huntington Beach resident and mother of three; past president of Huntington Union Council, a districtwide parent leadership committee.

Priorities: To look for alternative revenue sources for schools, such as businesses and educational foundations; to involve teachers, parents and administrators in problem-solving and important decisions; to create a strong core curriculum while offering a wide range of enrichment programs such as music and fine arts.

Julie Ann Hoxsie

Age: 35.

Occupation: Community volunteer.

Background: Fountain Valley resident and mother of three; American Red Cross volunteer; Fountain Valley Historical Society board member; past president of Gisler Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

Priorities: To maintain the current standards of education and avoid program cuts; to keep up with current technologies, such as computer literacy; to maintain school grounds to neighborhood standards.

Gaylyn Meyers

Age: 37.

Occupation: Chemical engineer.

Background: Huntington Beach resident and mother of two; involved in Engineers for Education, Junior Achievement and Huntington Beach Tomorrow.

Priorities: To support increased involvement in schools by parents, businesses and the community; to study the cost-saving potential of unifying school districts; to seek budget cuts that will affect the classroom least; to give teachers and principals authority to control their individual schools’ budgets.
