LONDON : An Image Problem

Britain’s battered Labor Party will be shopping for a new image Monday when it begins its annual conference in the Irish Sea resort of Blackpool.
The opposition party has lost four national elections in a row, the latest in April, when it had been favored to defeat the ruling Conservatives.
Senior Labor officials privately admit that Labor must articulate a more “positive” agenda. One said that as the party of change, “Labor must change to regain the people’s trust.”
The conference will be asked to back priorities of the new party leader, John Smith, which include improving the environment and reviving the economy.
