BONSALL : Accused Killer Claims Self Defense

The defense attorney for a woman accused of killing her live-in boyfriend said Monday that the victim was shot as the couple struggled over a gun that the woman had bought to protect herself.

Cindy Ann Oakley, 30, of La Mesa, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Charles Lee Beabout, 30. The victim was shot in the head and his body cut into pieces that were found Nov. 3 in two locations along Interstate 15 in Bonsall.

Defense attorney William Youmans maintains that Beabout became violent on the day he was killed because Oakley had evicted him from their home.

“If I’m kicked out, I’m going to take you with me,†Youmans quoted Beabout as telling his estranged girlfriend.

Oakley had been trying to break off the relationship, according to investigators, but Deputy Dist. Atty. August Meyer did not address this circumstance in his opening statement to jurors.

Meyer said that the victim’s blood was found on the couple’s bed and on a razor device that apparently was used to cut up the body.
