Big Bear 14, Moorpark 7--Defense and special teams were the key to Big Bear’s nonleague win over the Musketeers.
Senior tailback Ron Hejl returned the opening kickoff 98 yards to give the host Bears (2-0) the early lead. He also rushed for 27 yards in 11 carries.
Moorpark (1-1) answered in the second quarter with a 24-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jose Ceja to Jason Adamson following a fumble recovery.
However, Bryan Ryhal scored on a one-yard run later in the quarter to give the Bears a 14-7 advantage. The second half was scoreless.
