PREP PREVIEW ’92 / GIRLS’ TENNIS : SIX TEAMS TO WATCH : CORONA DEL MAR
Coach: Ellen Bryant (first year).
1991: 14-5, 10-0 in league; won Sea View League title; lost to Dana Hills in the second round of the Southern Section Division 4-A playoffs.
Key returners: Marcie Asch, Jr., will play No. 1 singles; Jenny Glasgow, So., will play doubles; Heather Nelson, Jr., set at No. 3 singles; Kristine Winton, Jr., will contribute with her experience in doubles; Christine O’Meara, So., another doubles specialist.
Key newcomers: Alicia Boice, Jr.; Teresa Brenner, Jr.; Ranee Rhodes, So.; Megan Wachtler, Fr.; Christina Walden, Fr.
Outlook: A new coach unfamiliar with the well-balanced Sea View League takes over the Corona del Mar program, but the Sea Kings remain the team to beat. Bryant, who has never coached a high school team, inherits a squad with no seniors but with a lot of depth. “I’m really impressed with the girls. They really want to work hard,†Bryant said. Keep an eye on Wachtler, one of the top junior players in Southern California, who will play No. 2 singles.
