CHESS RESULTS : Lengthy Game 6 Ends in a Draw for Fischer, Spassky
The sixth game of the “revenge match of the century†between former world chess champions Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky ended Thursday in a draw after 61 moves and more than seven hours of play in Sveti Stefan, Yugoslavia. Spassky leads the match 2-1, with three draws.
Playing white, Spassky opened with Queen’s Gambit, which Fischer accepted. Weak play after the opening cost Fischer a pawn at move 18. Spassky remained a pawn ahead for the rest of the game but missed the best path of play and let Fischer escape with a draw.
The seventh game is scheduled for Saturday. The match will continue until one player wins 10 games.
