OUTLOOK
Defense has become the strength of the program in recent years and the trend continues. The Rustlers return three all-conference players--Sims (61 tackles), Marvitz (53 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks) and Singletary (64 tackles, five forced fumbles). But unlike in the past, the offense could keep pace. Shipp gives Golden West a returning quarterback for the first time since 1984. Shipp completed 78 of 145 passes for 868 yards and seven touchdowns. Ragsdale rushed for 561 yards and caught 21 passes.
