Canner Amos Swayne, 82, Dies

Amos Swayne, co-founder of Case Swayne Co., a major Santa Ana-based food processor, died at his home on Wednesday. He was 82.

Swayne’s son Keith, now president of the firm, said his father was a “self-educated and self-made man†who spent more than 60 years in the canning industry.

Born in Glendale, Ore., in 1910, Amos Swayne joined with Paul Case to form Case Swayne Co. in 1943. He previously worked as production manager for another firm.

Case Swayne will celebrate its 50th year in business in 1993.

Peter Swayne, another son, , is also active in the company.

Amos Swayne is survived by his wife Iva, three children and six grandchildren.

A private family memorial service is planned.
